Definition : Laboratory analyzers designed to measure some or all of the most common ions (e.g., sodium [Na+], potassium [K+], chloride [Cl-], bicarbonate [HCO3-]) present in human body fluids. Electrolyte laboratory analyzers are used mainly to assess abnormal electrolyte levels that may result from disorders, including overhydration and dehydration, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and gastrointestinal or kidney diseases.
