Gel, Ultrasonic Coupling

Definition : Gel designed to act as an ultrasonic conductive media (i.e., an acoustic coupling agent) to enhance the transmission of ultrasound waves from the ultrasonic probe to the body of the patient and vice versa. This gel is applied to the ultrasonic probe and the skin surface of the area being examined and/or treated. Ultrasonic coupling gel is mainly used in examination or treatment procedures with ultrasound energy.
