Definition : Telemedicine information systems used to electronically transmit and receive radiologic images (e.g., magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography scans) and consultative text to and from one or more remote sites. Radiology telemedicine systems are mostly used by small remote hospitals and in emergency situations to transmit images to a radiologist at a larger hospital for review, interpretation, and/or consultation.
