Timers, Radiographic/Fluoroscopic

Definition : Timers designed for automated measuring of the active duration of exposure to x-rays during a fluoroscopic diagnostic imaging procedure. These timers typically consist of an x-ray detector that is placed in the beam path while an exposure is made, an electronic time measuring instrument, and a display. Radiographic/fluoroscopic timers are usually dedicated instruments intended for use with a variety of radiographic and fluoroscopic units (e.g., half- and/or full-wave generator); timers that are hard-wired to the control unit of radiographic/fluoroscopic units are frequently an integral part of those units. Stand-alone radiographic/fluoroscopic timers are used mainly for inspection, calibration, and/or quality control of diagnostic x-ray generators and units; the timers are frequently an integral component of kilovolt meter instruments used for quality control.
