Tubes, Nasoenteral, Feeding

Definition : Nasoenteral tubes designed to provide access to the small intestines for enteral feeding. These devices typically consist of a single- or dual-lumen plastic tube that has a diameter and length appropriate to reach the duodenum or jejunum; the tube is inserted through the nose, down the throat, through the esophagus and stomach, and into the duodenum. Feeding nasoenteral tubes are mainly used in patients who have intolerance for gastric feeding (gastroparesis); also, they can be used occasionally to remove air and liquids from the stomach and/or duodenum.
