Workstations, Healthcare, Medical Diagnostic Kiosk, Self-Operated

Definition : Healthcare workstations designed to facilitate the diagnosis of common diseases by performing a set of pre-established physiologic tests. These units are placed in installations known as medical kiosks and operated by the patient; the data and/or images obtained are then compared with the information available in the kiosk workstation. Self-operated (automated) medical diagnostic kiosk workstations typically consist of mobile computerized units (e.g., personal computers, laptops) that include input devices (e.g., keypads, touch-screens), output devices (e.g., monitors, printers), and electronic memories and processors. The kiosk workstations also include as integral components physiologic measuring devices, monitors, recorders, and appropriate software; they may also include interfaces with healthcare information systems. Self-operated diagnostic kiosk workstations usually provide a limited set of tests (e.g., blood pressure, pulse rate, electrocardiography, height and weight measurement, spirometry, blood glucose). In addition to healthcare settings these workstations may be available in pharmacies and other non-clinical locations.
