Definition : Laboratory blood analyzers used for the analysis of plasma or serum urea content, commonly reported in units of urea nitrogen. Both direct and indirect methods are used to determine urea content, using spectrophotometric and conductimetry detectors. These analyzers are used to determine increases in blood-urea nitrogen (azotemia), which may have prerenal, renal, or postrenal causes.
