IVD Electronic Quality Controls, Coagulation Analyzer, Clotting Time

Definition : In vitro diagnosis (IVD) quality controls designed for automated electronic control of the operation of blood clotting time coagulation analyzers. These devices (also known as electronic clotting tubes) provide an electronic simulation of clot sample characteristics resembling the patient clot response at a test endpoint, either a normal response at 100 seconds or an abnormal one for longer clotting times (e.g., 300 and 500 seconds). The tests with the sample simulations are appropriate for calibration of the parameters assessed by whole blood coagulation analyzer. Blood clotting time electronic controls are used for periodic routine assessment of proper operation and quality control of point-of-care coagulation analyzers; they are frequently intended only for a particular model or manufacturer.
