Pill Packing Units, Counting/Verification

Definition : Equipment designed for counting and verifying of the quantity of pills included in a given container following a pre-established program. These machines consist of a computerized unit that includes conveyors, input and output ports for the pill containers, barcode readers, cameras, and a processor that follows a dedicated software. The machines make it possible to count the quantity of pills in unit-dose or multi-dose containers, compare with the expected quantity, and keep record of the pills in each container. New types of pills to be introduced in the systems should be programmed prior to the process of counting and verification. Pill counting/verification units may be used as stand-alone units or as components of pill distribution systems in healthcare facilities (e.g., pharmacies, hospitals).
