Clamps, Surgical, Eye, Orbital Muscle

Definition : Eye (ophthalmic) surgical clamps designed to temporarily and atraumatically grasp the orbital muscle (Mueller's muscle) and the inner lining of the upper eyelid during ophthalmic surgery. These clamps are typically handheld, manual, T-shaped instruments with two long distal ends that can be locked together and a handle; they frequently include a threaded mechanism that is turned until the tissues are firmly secured. The tissues within the clamp are then excised with an appropriate blade. Muscle eye clamps are used to correct abnormal upper eyelid margin (ptosis) and in plastic surgery of the upper eyelid (i.e., blepharoplasty).
